A chalet to rent near Baie-Comeau, twenty minutes from town
For a work contract, a family visit or a stop before the ferry: what to know about staying in Pointe-Lebel when Baie-Comeau is the reason you came.

Many people looking for a place to stay in Baie-Comeau aren't really looking for Baie-Comeau. They want somewhere quiet to sleep, work and eat dinner after a day in town. Pointe-Lebel is eighteen kilometres away, about twenty minutes by car, and the chalet sits right on the beach.
This page is for people the town brings here: a contract of a few weeks, a relative to visit, a medical appointment, a stop before crossing to Matane. It covers what the chalet offers for that kind of stay, and what it doesn't.
Distances from the chalet
- Baie-Comeau: 18 km, about twenty minutes. Restaurants, pharmacy, SAQ, hardware store, hospital.
- Baie-Comeau airport: 9 km. It sits within Pointe-Lebel itself.
- Ferry dock for Matane: about 20 km.
- Nearest grocery store: 6 km, in the village.
Coming for work
The region runs largely on big industrial employers, including the Baie-Comeau aluminium smelter and the Manicouagan hydroelectric installations. People here on assignment often want more than a hotel room for several weeks: a real kitchen, some space, and somewhere to switch off in the evening.
The chalet has a full kitchen, fibre internet fast enough for two video calls at once, and a desk facing the window. Arrival is self check-in: the lock code is sent the day before, and you can walk in from 4 pm, even if your flight lands late.
Long stays cost less per night, automatically: 10% off from seven nights, 15% off from fourteen. The discount shows in the total before you book, with no code and no haggling.
Coming for family
When you come to see a parent in Baie-Comeau, a hotel in town is convenient but impersonal, and there isn't always a spare room. The chalet sleeps four in two bedrooms: two double beds, one single and a sofa bed. There is a single bathroom, which matters with four adults.
The big table faces the river. That is often where the visits happen, rather than at a restaurant.
Arriving by plane or by ferry
Baie-Comeau airport is served by Air Liaison, with links to Quebec City, Montreal (Saint-Hubert) and Sept-Îles. Schedules change with the season, so check them with the airline. There is no public transport to the chalet: plan a rental car or someone to pick you up.
The Matane to Baie-Comeau ferry saves a very long detour through Quebec City when you are coming from the Gaspé or the Lower St. Lawrence. The Société des traversiers du Québec takes reservations up to three months ahead, and in summer vehicle spaces go early.
What the chalet doesn't replace
It isn't a hotel. There is no front desk, no daily housekeeping, no breakfast. The minimum stay is two nights. And if you need to be in downtown Baie-Comeau at 7 am every morning in January, count the twenty minutes on a route 138 that can be snowy.
In exchange, you come home in the evening to a heated chalet with a fireplace and the beach at the bottom of the stairs. For many people on long assignments, that is what makes the weeks bearable.
